Friday 18 September
Our exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ raceday starts with a morning Stable tour and visit to the Gallops before you go on to enjoy hospitality and a full racecard at Newbury races.
Your day kicks off with an early start as you arrive at Dean Ivory’s stables in Hertfordshire.
Nestled in a quiet part of leafy Hertfordshire, Harper Lodge Farm Stables is a 115-acre private training establishment in Radlett, Hertfordshire. Driving through the automatic wrought iron gates along the private avenue of perfectly manicured yew trees, one enters an equine haven.
The front quad, the main stabling area comprises 20 large, airy wooden boxes on four sides surrounding the lawn where horses can have a pick of grass after morning exercise. The eye is drawn to the old clock tower below which is a painting of Dawns Delight, winner of 17 races for Ken Ivory. Many top-class horses have been stabled here, even including three-time Grand National winning legend, Red Rum, who stopped off here during his tour of “opening” betting shops in the 70s!
After a tea and coffee to wake you up and breakfast baps it is time for your personal tour of the stables by Racing Manager, Simon Double
You will see horses being prepared for morning exercise & warming up in indoor school, before going on to watch horses work on the gallops with Simon Double and trainer Dean Ivory.
In 2002 Dean took over the reins from his father, Ken Ivory. The winners have continued to flow from Harper Lodge Farm consistently ever since. He has already trained over 490 winners and the stable goes from strength to strength.
Following the tour we will board our executive coach, with Simon Double, and head to Newbury Races.
We will host a hospitality afternoon at Newbury Races, where you will enjoy superb panoramic views of the racecourse from The Racegoers Restaurant.
There will be plenty of time to relax over a sumptuous three-course lunch with champagne and wine at a private table which you will have for the entire afternoon.
Once again Racing Manager Simon Double will be on hand to look after you. With 25 years’ experience in the racing industry at the highest level, Simon will guide you through the form, running a tipping competition and provide access to the paddock.
The Tote is just down the hall from the Hospitality Suite and you can take a short walk down to the Parade Ring to see the runners and riders.
With seven races on the cards there will be plenty of opportunity to back a winner or two.
